May I ask what is recommended for rendering videos for youtube with VEGAS Pro 17 Edit? I tried Magix AVC/AAC and it took 40 min to render a 20 min video. Then it took about 5 hours to upload to youtube.
I have downloaded Mediainfo, and I opened my final edit of a 17-minute video made with Vegas Pro 17.0. (The camcorder used is a Sony DCR SX-41 from around 2007) I went to “text” view and copied everything:

These are the properties of that same video, from the “General”tab;
Folder: C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 17.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\mcplug2
Format: MainConcept MPEG-2
Version: Version 17.0 (Build 421)
Company: MAGIX Computer Products Intl. Co.
I was unable to copy the info on the “Media” tab.
I have two options that I know of for importing video from my Sony DCR SX-41 from around 2007. One is Playmemories software recently recommended by Sony, and the other is Microsoft Video Editor. I can look at the properties of the videos as imported, but not copy them.
Thanks for explaining how to copy the above information, and for trying to help me find a way to upload video to YouTube that does not take over six hours for a 17 minute video.
Thanks Rick, I looked at those 2 links, and I think they are for people with more advanced knowledge, and more complex needs than I. All I am looking for is a solution to what appears to be a problem; that it took 6 hours to upload a 17 minute video to youtube. If that is not a problem, and if that is normal, then I will accept it. Do you know, is 6 hours "normal" to upload a simple video made with Vegas Pro 17.0 to YouTube? I will wait for a reply from MV above, after he analyses the properties info he requested, Your opinion is welcome also. Thanks
Hi Jack. Glad you haven't, but I did have. I used the same format you mentioned, not sure about the template. So then at least you agree that there is something wrong if it took six hours to upload a 17 minute video? Hoping that with all the properties info I sent, that MV will be able to figure out what is wrong.
Many internet service providers. dispute their 200+ Mbps download speed. uploads are limited to 5 Mbps. Even at 5Mbps, a 1.7 GB file should not take more than a half hour ( of coarse there are many other factors affecting speed). Are uploading directly to YT or going through Vegas or another app, which can slow things down?@
@Jeff-Rolando To understand all well, what you statet under "These are the properties of that same video, from the “General”tab;", are that the file properties of the video on your timeline in Vegas Pro 17? If so you have rendered it to a complete wrong dimension for that type of video in the project.
To get it all well place here the Media Info of the filetype on the timeline of your project and give also a screenshot of your project properties in your rendered project.
There is a pandemic going on in the world. Uploading 1.7 GB of video to youtube may take longer with everyone in the known world video chatting with their friends and family, every TV network social distancing their on-air talent and every school trying to stream some form of learning to children who are not able to finish the year in school.
* Set field order to match the actual filed order of your media per Mediainfo.
Create your own custom standard definition template as follows: (assuming you have a modern GPU)
Doing this will make better use of your render resources and take a lot less time to upload to youtube assuming every person on the planet is not watching cat videos when you're uploading.
Thanks for the brief reply, but since you are the person who kindly sent me a link that told me how to extract properties from both Mediainfo and Vegas, I was hoping for a more detailed reply. Did you analyze the properties you requested by sending me that link? If so, can you say that there was no information in the properties that would even partially explain the uploading time of 6 hours for a 17-minute video? If “Enable Progressive Download” in my render template is the only thing you can suggest, then I thank you, but please be specific about the above questions. Uploading “twice as fast” would be an improvement, but can you say that 3 hours to upload a 17-minute video to youtube is “normal” with Vegas Pro 17? Thank you.
Yes, I upload using youtube directly. I wouldn’t know of any other way. Are you able to analyze the properties information requested above by Musicvid? His reply was brief. If so, is there anything in those properties that you think might be causing the extremely long uploading time? Thanks.
If what you requested if from the “Media”tab, I could not copy it, so I tried to screenshot it;
I have the screenshots in Word, but when I copy my message in this box, it omits the screenshots, and when I try to copy screenshots directly into this box, it does not copy.
I aalso have a screenshot of the project properties of the rendered video in a Word document.
I have the screenshots in Word, but when I copy my message in this box, it omits the screenshots
How can I copy the screenshots in a manner that you can receive? Thanks for your assistance.
If what you meant was that my Sony DCR SX-41 records in 720x480x32, MPEG-2 and “There is no benefit to upscaling to 1080p” then I think I understood at least that part of your message. But the photo or screenshot you sent after writing “Set your project properties as follows:*” is illegible, unless you can inform me how to “open” it or something. I tried to enlarge it and it is too blurry to read. I can enlarge and read the second photo or screenshot you sent, but I don’t even know what a GPU is. This is a Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series, only about 3 years old. How can I tell if it has a modern GPU? Thanks
I am now able to open and enlarge the photo or screenshot you sent after writing “Set your project properties as follows:*” I still should know if I have a “modern GPU before I follow your kindly offered advice. This is a Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series, only about 3 years old. How can I tell if it has a modern GPU? Thanks
Jeff, my latest reply mentions one controllable factor that many people are unaware of or forget. Progressive download places the moov atom at the beginning of the file, so that Youtube begins processing immediately rather than after the complete file has been uploaded. Thus, it cuts your aggregate time to publish almost in half, consistently.
There is nothing wrong with your rendered file, and others have provided suggestions for reducing its size. Your size vs. upload time is an aberration, and I am not experiencing that with similar files AT MY LOCATION.
That said, I have absolutely no control over your upload speed, internet backbone congestion, detoured hops to Burma, or queue status at Youtube, but I am 100% certain they are all massive right now. Kindly breathe out.
Thanks for your reply, and I will apply the Progressive Internet Downloads option. I didn’t say or suggest that you had “control over my upload speed,” and since you wrote that my “size vs. upload time is an aberration,” at least you concur that it is not only abnormal but unwelcome, so it can’t be unreasonable for me to look for solutions. Since you wrote that “There is nothing wrong with my rendered file,” does that mean you disagree with the person who, having analyzed the same data, wrote that “There is no benefit to upscaling to 1080p,” or does that refer to something other than the rendered file? I didn’t intentionally upscale to 1080p, but if the data says I did, I guess I did. I’m not sure I understood him, but I think he implied that my Sony DCR SX-41 records in 720x480x32, MPEG-2, and I should use that ratio in my template. Do you know if that might be one other factor that contributed to the aberrant upload time, or is that unrelated to upload time? Since I know almost nothing about your field of expertise, I appreciate your kind efforts on my behalf.
I didn't disagree with anyone. I do think you are generalizing from one experience, and need many more experiences in order to answer these questions for yourself. I do think you are wanting the tail (your file) to wag the dog (the internet).
IOW, get out there and make lots of really good mistakes! That is the only way anyone ever learned video editing. Then come back and ask more informed questions because young gifted overthinkers make this career educator batty. This will have to be be my last comment in this thread, so until then, Good Luck!
When I choose “Custom Settings” in “Render as” it won’t let me OK them. (In the screenshot you sent me, OK is visible at the bottom.) It won’t let me scroll down, I am only allowed to drag up as far as “chroma subsampling” I can’t tab through, and I can’t grab the corners to make it smaller. I can’t OK the custom settings, and of course if I close, they go away.
